Moreover, at that time, VPL Research authorized Mattel to use the Data Glove technology to create the Power Glove, a glove intended to be used on the Nintendo, the NES. 2007 is the arrival of Google Street View to virtually travel the world’s roads. In March 2014, Facebook bought the company Oculus VR, the company responsible for the Oculus Rift, whose first prototype was released in 2011. Also in March 2014, Sony announces a project for VR headset, at the time called “Project Morpheus” and then “Playstation VR”. Finally, in September 2014, Samsung announces its Gear VR, which will later become the Samsung Gear VR.

The FOV is in fact, in broad terms, the visual field. There are two types of FOV, the angular FOV, expressed in degrees and the linear FOV, expressed in “mm”. The FOV announced by the manufacturers and always the angular FOV. So what is the angular FOV? It is quite complicated in reality. It’s a rather complex formula that takes into account several elements such as the deformation (the magnification of the lenses) and the distance between the lens and the target subject, in our case, the screen of the smartphone. But the FOV also takes into account the focal length, that is, the distance between the lens and the eye.

Immersion and magnification

The FOV announced by headset manufacturers is directly related to lens magnification. When a headset announces an FOV of 110° (55° per eye), it is the immersion that will prevail by applying a high magnification. If the FOV is less important, it means that the magnification is less important. However, a high FOV is not necessarily a good thing.

The choice of the FOV

All in all, a 110° FOV allows a greater immersion, but with a reduced field of view. One has the impression to be closer to the screen, but with a less important field of view. On the contrary, a FOV of 90° will have a lower magnification, therefore a feeling to be more distant from the screen, therefore a lesser immersion for a more important field of view. In reality, everything will depend on the size of the screen.

A good FOV is the one that allows to have the widest possible field of view without the possibility to see beyond the display surface, mainly the screen. All in all, there is not really an ideal FOV. So just because a FOV is advertised as being 110° does not mean that it will be better than a 90° FOV. It’s also marketing manipulation.

The Samsung Gear VR is the real first headset I used for the VR Porn. However, know that there are several things to know that I will develop in this part. For the other headsets, I have less experience, I will give you the information I have and when I test these headsets, I will give you an update to detail the operation with more precision.

The Samsung Gear VR headset is the most sophisticated virtual reality headset I own at the moment (but before the OculusQuest). This headset is one of the best selling headsets in the world and it is one of the easiest to use. Also, with the partnership between Samsung and the Oculus Store, it offers a lot of possibilities. You should know that you currently have two models of Samsung Gear VR headset. Maybe we’ll start there.

At Samsung, you have two different headsets. You have the first version, the R322 model, which is white and the second version, from 2016, the R325 model, which is black. You can’t really go wrong. The 2016 version brings some new features, including a wider field of vision, better comfort and more room for glasses. Ventilation is also better. Light passes less inside the headset as well. But the 2015 version is still very interesting and above all, its price is very interesting so far!

This first-generation model has no joystick compared to the second. However, the controller can be purchased separately, allowing to have this advantage present on the 2016 model. It should be noted that the R322 model has a 96° FOV while the R325 model uses a 110° FOV. But it’s the change of connectors that really makes the difference from one model to the other.

The lenses of the Gear VR headset

Indeed, the 2015 model, the R322 only accepts the Galaxy Note 4 and Note 5, the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge and S6 Edge +, as well as the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The R325 model supports Galaxy S6/S6 Edge, Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, Galaxy S8/S8 Plus, Note 7, Note 8 and A8. I think you can find more information on Samsung’s website. Indeed, for the Note, I’m not sure. For the R325 model, you have a USB Type C / Micro USB adapter for compatibility with older smartphones like the S6/S7.

Which smartphone to choose with the Samsung Gear VR?

Very clearly, take the smartphone you have and that is compatible with. However, even if the screen size is the same between one smartphone model and another, there may be differences. Indeed, between a 5.7 inch, 5.1 and 5.5 inch screen, it is not the same thing. Indeed, the ratio between the smartphone resolution and the screen size influences the pixel density. It will be smaller for large screens, ranging from 518 ppi to 577 ppi for smaller screens. In short, the higher the pixel density, the less visible the grid effect will be and the greater the immersion will be.

In addition, the other important point is the storage capacity. You should know that a VR porn video represents about 4 GB for 20 minutes of scene depending on the resolution of the video, its framerate and the type of VR video. On some smartphones, there is no slot for an SD or micro SD card. On my Galaxy S7, no problem, I was able to add a micro SD card for storage. However, be aware that you can stream your videos, especially from a DLNA server. It’s a bit more complex, but quite feasible.

Advantages of the Samsung Gear VR headset

Unlike other headsets such as the Playstation VR which plugs into PS4 or the Oculus which must plug into a VR Ready PC, the Gear VR is completely mobile since it is the smartphone inside that acts as the screen. You can therefore move freely with it. In addition, there are many VR Porn sites that are mainly configured to support this headset. Only good points!

Preparing your smartphone

There is not really any special preparation to do, even if depending on what you want to do, there will still be a quick-start to do and the installation of applications to watch VR Porn. Please note that there is no special application for the VR Porn on the Oculus store. Because yes, the Samsung Gear VR uses the Oculus ecosystem following the partnership between Samsung and Oculus. You can also add a second strap for the skull. For my part, I do not use it. Then, you have to wait a little bit, a logo will appear on the screen to guide you and you indicate to remove your headset to recover the Oculus ecosystem.

The choice of the application

There are several possibilities when it comes to the choice of application. Either you don’t need anything and just use a system to send a signal to your smartphone to prepare the video. Then, you place your smartphone as requested on the screen on your desk and go! This is the case on Pornhub, but I’ll tell you more about it later.

The SkyboxVR application is one of the best to play VR videos.

Otherwise, you will need to install a VR Player, like Sideload VR or use the Samsung VR Player present in the Oculus store. Once the videos downloaded, present on your smartphone, you can launch them with this player.  You can also use SkyBox VR, which I recommend, because I find this application well done and complete. Indeed, this application works with Google Daydream, Gear VR, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive and Oculus.

It supports HD, FullHD and 4K videos, 2D videos, 3D in SBS, 180° 3D, 360° with subtitles and soundtrack. And at the level of formats, from .MP4, .MKV, .AVI, .MOV, .FLV and many others. And best of all, the application supports VR Porn streaming from a UPnp/DLNA server to stream video directly to your smartphone. However, on my smartphone, I can’t install this application, an error occurs every time I try.

Little tricks to avoid being fooled

If you don’t want to be fooled too much, here are some interesting tips to know. For example, I recommend that you create a specific folder on your smartphone for VR Porn videos and place inside it, in addition to your videos, an empty text file under the name “.nomedia” to tell the Android system to ignore the content present in this folder when creating multimedia playlists. There’s even a utility that the Google Play Store has called “nomedia” to do this.

Be careful also if you want to rename your videos. You’re going to tell me that it’s very simple to rename a file, but for VR, it’s not the same thing. You can rename your files, but don’t delete the end of the original file title. Indeed, in the name of the video, there is the corresponding display mode. For example, a video named “BaDoink-Anal_3dv” indicates that it is a video that should be launched in 3dv mode, because the video is encoded vertically. If you see “_3dh”, it is a horizontally encoded video. You can also find “_181x180_3dh” or “cylinder_slice_19x9_3dv”. There are a lot of modes, remember to keep this part to make it easier to play the video in the right mode.

What happens next?

When everything is ready, when you arrive at the Oculus hub, the first thing to do is to adjust the sharpness of the image with the wheel on the top of the headset. This wheel allows you to move the lenses back and forth on the screen. You can use glasses with the headst, but it’s still more comfortable without. When you’ve done this, you’ll need to validate the warning and precautionary messages. Simply place your eyes on the option and tap on the directional cross on the right side of your headset. Then you will have access to the player to open the folder of your videos.

To tell you a little more, the touchpad on the side allows you to turn the volume up or down. The menu can be accessed by pressing the center of the number pad at any time or by bending your head down completely. Here you can set an area of the video timeline to load the scene, loop playback, pause, change the video viewing mode. Once you’ve played with it, it’s easy to find your way around.

How to watch VR Porn on the Oculus Quest?

As I’ve fallen in love with an Oculus Quest headst, it’s quite normal to offer you a tutorial on how to use this headst to watch VR porn. It’s a headst that costs a bit an arm, you’ll have to count about 550 € for the 128 GB version.

So the principle remains the same, you have to download the video to your headset. To do this, simply connect the headset to your PC as an Android smartphone. The access through the headset is validated via one of the controllers.

Then you can copy your video file to the Movies folder in the Oculus Quest. Then with the integrated player (through the gallery) or SkyboxVR, you can simply launch the video! This is the method I prefer, because I have no latency, no video loading time that comes along the way.

Why is the Oculus Quest headset good at what it does?

If I opted for another VR headset after buying a Samsung Gear VR, it’s to enjoy VR even more, whether it’s for the VR Porn but of course for the Oculus Quest applications and games. This headset is very well placed on the current market. It has a spatial tracking function, which offers the possibility to precisely follow your movements and move around in a virtual environment.

On the Gear, I didn’t have that option. It’s the “degree of freedom as Oculus calls it. On the Oculus Go, there were only 3 degrees of freedom, whereas here, the Quest has 6, which allows for greater freedom of movement and tracking.

There is also a spatial audio system for a better immersion. Compared to the Oculus Rift and its resolution of 1280 x 1080 per eye, the Quest version offers a resolution of 1600 x 1440 per eye! There is clearly a difference between the Gear VR and the Oculus Quest.

Why take a real VR headset instead of the Gear VR? That’s the question I asked myself. Indeed, between a headset at 30 € and another at more than 500 €, I was entitled to ask myself the right questions. In the end, I am clearly not disappointed.

Already, the first problem I had with the Gear VR was the temperature problem of the smartphone. Quite quickly, after 20 minutes (sometimes less), I would get an error message telling me to stop the VR because the smartphone was too hot. If I didn’t take this warning into account, the video was jerky and it was not usable. Here, with the Oculus Quest, there was no problem with the video stopping because of the temperature.

Another problem is the FOV of the Samsung Gear VR. Indeed, when you go from 96° to 110°, you find yourself in another dimension. I don’t know if it’s really the FOV or the lens resolution, but the visual field is really better and most importantly, I don’t have that crush I had on the Gear VR. Indeed, on the latter, the actresses on video were all thin, as if the ratio of the video was not good. On the Oculus Quest, I have a well respected image ratio.

And the last point is that the quality is extremely good! I can tell you that we would really believe it. But I’ll come back to the subject a little later, in my conclusion. Of course, these are not the only advantages of this headset compared to the Gear VR, but I’m not going to tell you everything anyway!

The types of videos of the VR Porn

One might think that there is only one type of video in the field of VR Porn, however, there are really several examples of VR Porn on the market. I’m talking about VR Porn here, but in reality, this fits all types of videos. So let’s see the differences between the types of videos for VR Porn that you can find.

The SBS videos are the first ones I discovered when I received the SphereSpecs headset to review. At that time, I had no knowledge of this environment, it was a total discovery. The concept is quite simple. Basically, traditional stereoscopic photography is the creation of a 3D illusion that starts with two 2D images.

The simplest way to improve the impression of depth and to show the same image in two different versions but with two different perspectives of the same object. There is a simple minor deviation that is exactly equal to the perspective that our two eyes naturally receive in binocular vision. The SBS (or Side by Side) method is extremely simple to create, that’s why these are the first types of videos for VR Porn that I had the opportunity to see.

The VR Porn in 180°

For the 180° VR Porn, it is a stereoscopic video, which captures only 180° of the field of view. So you can move your head 180° to discover the environment, but you can’t move around. Maybe in the near future, but for now, it is still fixed.

The VR Porn in 360°

Concerning the VR Porn 360°, we talk about immersive videos or spherical videos. These are videos that are filmed in all directions at the same time using an omnidirectional camera or several cameras at the same time. The result is that the scene can be observed at 360°. However, this is not the most used format, 180° is the most common format.

Why? Simply because the majority of VR porn videos do not use it. What is the interest of watching 360° for a VR porn ? None ! Well, almost! The only interest that I see mainly is VR Porn as a spectator of an orgy taking place at 360° for example. Otherwise, 180° is the type of video you will find most often, at least in 2019.

Safety and precautions to be taken

When we talk about VR, we must necessarily talk about safety and precautions! The first rule is that you should not travel with an VR headset on your head. It seems obvious, but we can quickly be fooled. In addition, some systems have an option to pass in normal view through the camera, we can quickly get into trouble. Indeed, you can easily lose your bearings, even for people accustomed to new technologies.

The other point is the duration of the session. Indeed, VR requires a lot of resources on the smartphone. It will clearly heat up during its use. It is absolutely necessary to take this into account as there is a risk of damaging your smartphone afterwards. On average, you can stay from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on several criteria such as ambient heat, video quality, other applications in the background on your smartphone. Anyway, on the Samsung Gear VR, a warning message tells you to stop using the VR due to overheating.

Obviously, with the Oculus Quest, this problem is not present. You just have to delimit the Guardian zone correctly so that you don’t have the virtual irons threads that appear as soon as you move a little (Or activate the developer mode).

Platforms that offer VR Porn

Of course, to watch VR Porn, you need videos, that’s the basis. And to find videos of VR Porn, you have to go through a platform. Here is another VR porn platform, I named VRPorn! I was contacted directly by them after reading my guide on the subject! I think it must be appreciated since the platform offered me to write about them! As I like to talk about the things I know and that I could test, I asked for an access during 1 month in order to discover it. Here is my opinion!

My VRPorn trial

My trial was special. Indeed, I took a lot of time to give you a myfeedback. It’s my fault, I had started to take care of it, but I left to do something else in the meantime. As a result, my Premium access on the platform was continued several times to allow me to do a bit of a tour! I must say that the manager I’m in contact with was really nice to give me so much time to write my opinion.

We can say it, the content of VRPorn is gigantic! It’s actually a content aggregation hub! This means that they are not in original version, but re-encoded by the platform. And it’s double-edged.

Sometimes it’s perfect, because the video is as good as the original but with a lower weight. But I have to say that I’ve also come across videos where the encoding wasn’t great, with extra noise, pixelation and so on. But sometimes, the videos are in the original format, like for VRCosplay X in particular! You also have sections for content adapted to women, gays or Trans and even a space to become a creator.

The site is pretty clear overall, fast and didn’t bring me any particular problems. There is a “Studios”, “Pornstars” and “Categories” section that will allow you to search for videos from your favorite studio, your favorite actresses or according to a specific category.

The payment system

In terms of available offers, you have a monthly offer at $24.99/month (often with promotions at $19.95/month) or an annual version at less than $300, but often sold out, especially at $95.40/year. For payment, you can pay by credit card, Paypal and even Bitcoin and you can cancel your subscription at any time during the current month.

Overall

No wonder VRPorn is appreciated, it’s the platform on which I found the most content of all kinds, from a large number of studios, with very frequent, not to say daily, updates! The only small reproach I have is that you can’t find videos from some studios like CzechVRFetish for example.

But also that the videos are not proposed with the maximum quality that can be found directly on the platform of the studio in question and that some videos have a slightly weird encoding. And, but this is a very small detail, the date of the video is indicated as the date when the video was published on VRPorn, but not the date when the studio in question first published it.

In any case, if you don’t really know what you are looking for, if you want to discover a maximum of studios without paying a crazy amount of money, VRPorn is satisfied at this level for its very large content of all kinds!
