This is the Lelo comeback, since the Lelo Sona 2 has arrived on the clitoral stimulators market! Yes, it is the return of the Swedish brand, which offers us here, a second model of their clitoral stimulator without contact, using sonic waves ! Yes, a stimulator, like the Womanizer Premium or the Satisfyer Pro 2 Vibration or even the We-Vibe Melt, reviewed recently (on the French website at the moment but it’s now available in English too). These are not using the same technologies inside, but the principle remains mainly the same with slight differences.
It had been a while since Lelo had not renewed its first attempt in this market, this is now the case with the Lelo Sona 2, a model that has been updated to better match all clitoris sizes, but not only. Lelo Sona 2 is therefore an evolution of the Sona. And you probably already know, there is also a Lelo Sona 2 Cruise that comes to bring its update to the first Sona Cruise. We find on the Lelo Sona 2 box, the same elements as for the first model. Nothing has moved and this is the case since the release of the Wave range. It was already this type of box with the Loki Wave or the Lelo Hugo. So it’s a black box with the text written in gold. We can see that there is a transparent window made of plastic to see the product before opening the box. Once we open it, we discover its content.
The first thing you can see is the Lelo Sona 2, still lying in a foam mold. Then, you have a small part with a flapper system to access various things. There is a USB charging cable and a small booklet to get you started. We have a Lelo lubricant sample but also a product registration card for the warranty as well as a black and satin storage pouch.
Again, there is not really a manual available. There is just a little bit of paper that says to download the manual on the Internet. I can understand for ecological reasons, but since Lelo uses plastic, I doubt that this is the reason. It’s a pity, nothing more.
Lelo Sona 2 physical details
Honestly, I will not tell you that the Lelo Sona 2 is completely different from the first model. Just by seeing the two, one next to the other, we immediately recognize that this is a new version that does not change radically the design of their product. Indeed, we find this compact and ergonomic shape of the first Sona, with on the back, a golden part with a mirror effect. The difference here is that this part is slightly different, with a golden color and small waves at the top and bottom of it. Visually, so it’s a bit different, but nothing amazing either.
There are also three buttons, placed inside, finally, on the inner part of the stimulator, unlike other models where the buttons are placed outside. On the other hand, the big difference with the first model is the stimulating head. Indeed, this is where Lelo focused their changes. It is always the same size for the hole where the clitoris will be, but the shape is different. We can see that this one is now softer, more comfortable, with a design that looks pretty like the Womanizer stimulating head. It’s a pretty good sign!
Lelo Sona 2 size
Before I talk about the stimulating head size, let’s go back to the Lelo Sona 2 dimensions! Once again, Lelo did not change the size of its sonic waves stimulator, since it displays exactly the same numbers. We have a 9.9 cm long stimulator (3.89″) by 5.6 cm wide (2.20″) and 8.7 cm high (3.42″). It remains as compact as ever. On the other hand, as I mentioned a little earlier, it is the stimulating head that has changed.
Now, the Lelo Sona 2 has a wider mouthpiece, more comfortable, deeper, to fit a maximum of clitoris. Indeed, one clitoris may differ from another. It’s like a penis. There are small, medium and large clitoris. In the first model, the tip had a hole of 1.1 cm (0.43″) in diameter and a low depth, which could be a problem for larger and higher clitoris.
Today, Lelo fixed the problem with a stimulator that will adapt to your morphology. The stimulating head diameter is actually always the same, but as said before, it is the shape that changes. The depth is more important, but the stimulating head is quite big, thick, when you compare it to the Womanizer head.
Other things about Lelo Sona 2
Regarding the other elements that I can tell you about this Lelo Sona 2 is that its head is still not removable. I must admit that it is something that I have trouble to understand. Why not propose a removable stimulating head? Satisfyer and Womanizer offer this almost on all their models, except the recently Satisfyer Luxury High-Fashion, but Lelo remains on its idea. Admittedly, the tip is larger and will fit better, but we still can’t change it. I think it’s a pity, nothing more.
Also know that the Lelo Sona 2 is not very heavy. The first model showed 116 grams on the scale, this second model is identical, so its weight should not have changed. Having both hands in my hands, I do not feel any difference. Also, as you can see, the version we received is the purple and gold version. Know that the Lelo Sona 2 also exists in pink and golden or black and golden.

Guess what ? Yes, you’re good, the Lelo Sona 2 is also made of ABS plastic and silicone. At the same time, why change? So we find medical grade silicone, still soft and silky, with a capacity to not hang the dust as on other types of silicones. Then we have the ABS plastic part, the part with the mirror effect. The small concern of this part is that it easily takes fingerprints. It’s not a big deal, but a 100% silicone version would not have been superfluous.

How to charge the Lelo Sona 2?
Just do as with the majority of sex toys with a battery, recharge it to use it. You have a USB charging cable by plugging it, from Lelo Sona 2 to the other end, on a PC or AC adapter to go faster. At the specs level, we have the same thing. It takes a charging time of 120 minutes, for an average autonomy of 60 minutes. There is no improvement in the battery. Know that it can hold for 90 days without using it.
How to use it?
The basic principle of Lelo Sona 2, like all clitoral stimulators of this type, is to stimulate the clitoris by stimulation without direct contact with it. So simply place the Sona 2 head around the clitoris and take advantage of its intensity levels and modes. With three buttons to press, it’s not rocket science. You have a “+” button to increase the intensity, a “-” button to lower it and a “(o)” button to find the mode that suits you.
How does the Lelo Sonic waves system work?
As for the first model, Lelo diverges a bit from the other stimulators of the market. Indeed, it works by sonic pulsations and even sonic waves. It is a small internal membrane that oscillates. What are the current modes and intensity levels?
Here, we change and we go to 12 intensity modes! So be careful, because 12 modes do not necessarily mean more power. In fact, the Lelo Sona 2 offers a wider range intensity, but does not offer more power than the first model. And you will see it in our usage feedback, that this point is important.
So we find ourselves with constant and alternative modes, including a pretty crazy mode, which uses a model that seems completely random, while having a logic. We were on 120 Hz pulses, which seems to always be the case on this Lelo Sona 2. There is something for everyone, but we had the impression with Kitty, that there was not a constant stimulation as strong as on the first Sona. We’ll talk to you later about that.
Which lube to use with the Lelo Sona 2?
Whatever you want, as long as it’s a water-based lubricant. It is the most important thing. Obviously, I will recommend my favorite lubricants, but you really have the choice at this level. For my part, I love Sliquid H2O, Sliquid Satin, but also Sliquid Organics Sensation.
How to clean the Lelo Sona 2?
Like the first model, the Lelo Sona 2 is waterproof up to 1 meter deep. This allows you two things. The first is that you can clean it easily by passing it under warm water with a little soap and it’s done. It is also possible to use a toy cleaner, the Sliquid Shine is very good in this area. The second thing is that you’ll be able to use it under water and that’s really good, because the stimulation will not be the same, the sonic waves spread even better in the water!

Lelo Sona 2 handling
We will start with things that have not really moved between the Sona and Lelo Sona 2, the grip. Knowing that the product is almost identical between the first and second model, the grip remains the same, that is to say, very good. With its wavy shape, it is still as pleasant to handle. Whether by yourself or by another person. When I used it on Kitty, I was able to keep it in place without worries and handle it on my side, without looking her clitoris to be sure that the Sona 2 is well placed.
The buttons are placed in the same way, the curvature is the same, the only thing that changes is the stimulating head. The Sona 2 is easier to place, its head can cover a wider area, it is easier to position well when someone else manipulates it rather than the person stimulated. Just after using the Sona 2, I used the Sona, the first one on Kitty and I must say that it is less obvious if the head is well placed when I handle it, instead of Kitty can do it herself.
The new stimulating head
If there is one thing that can’t be ignored, it is the change of the stimulating head shape. As I said, it is more in the Womanizer stimulating head shape, without the removable part. For me and with Kitty’s feedback, we can say that the new head makes it easier to place the Sona 2 on the clitoris and better fit it with its shape.
However, we found that the stimulation becomes softer. This new head seems to soften the Lelo Sona 2 power and allows a softer and more gradual stimulation. The head depth is also greater, but we found that the stimulation became less strong. It is also softer for the stimulating head, but not as much as you would have thought.
The new intensity levels
Another change, the Lelo Sona 2 goes up to 12 levels, which promises to be better. However, when we use it, we are not so sure. Indeed, the Lelo Sona 2 seems softer than the first Sona. When I used the first intensity level on Kitty, I found that the level was quite low. A bit like a Womanizer “Super Soft” mode. I can confirm this because during our tests, I had, as previously mentioned, charged the Sona in its first version to compare it. We clearly feel the difference between the Lelo Sona 2 first level and the Sona first level.
Clearly, the first model was more powerful, more lively! It’s a bit like the first Sona level corresponding to level 4 or 5 of the Lelo Sona 2. In fact, when we compare the two models, the power seems the same, but from our feedback, the first Sona seems more powerful, more intense. And this seems to come from the stimulating head changes.
Alternative modes
At for alternative modes, they are always nice. There are well-known modes, but also less common modes. There is one mode that seems to be completely random. In reality, this mode follows a well-defined pattern, but it is really a mode that seems to do what it wants and surprises her user rather well. Here, it is very good, the modes are varied and pleasant, even if often, it is the constant modes which please the most.
The stimulation itself
To make another point on this subject, you should know that the Sona / Sona 2 does not deliver the same stimulation as a Womanizer or Satisfyer. Indeed, Lelo uses oscillations (with sonic waves) while Womanizer and Satisfyer use rather a kind of aspiration. It’s completely different. The oscillations are more raw, more direct. It’s a bit like tapping the clitoris according to Kitty. While at Womanizer / Satisfyer, it feels more like a kind of slight aspiration.
I can tell you that Kitty did not feel the same way at all and clearly the sonic waves are stronger than a Womanizer. For some, sonic waves will be preferred, those who want a more direct stimulation, stronger, but may tend to numb the clitoris. While a Womanizer, will not have this effect. These are really two different stimulations. The Womanizer / Satisfyer will therefore be sweeter overall.
The stimulator noise
At the noise level, between the first and second model, we found that the Lelo Sona 2 was less noisy. We think that the stimulating head shape and its depth are the cause, but it is also possible that Lelo has improved the internal motor of their product. In any case, it makes less noise, even if we hear it, we must not dream. But once placed on the clitoris, it’s really very honest, the noise is not disturbing.
Waves propagation in water
Again, in the water, the stimulation is even stronger. It’s good to know, because as the Lelo Sona 2 seems less intense than the first model, using it under water, we find additional power by the waves propagation in the water. If you find the Lelo Sona 2 a bit weak for you, it’s good to take! It will remain to see if the Sona 2 Cruise takes the same direction as the difference between the Sona and Lelo Sona 2. We talk about it very quickly!
The membrane don’t stop now
Finally, I must say that the problem that could arise with the first model is no longer there, I speak of the internal membrane that could stop moving. By offering a deeper head, the membrane is less likely to hang, which is a good thing.
Lelo Sona 2 final thoughts
Does Sona 2 surpass the first one? It is not certain. Indeed, it will depend on your desires and your needs. Because it must be said, this Sona 2 is for me, a model that will be more suitable for users who want a soft feeling, a stimulation that rises slowly, with which we can play, the kind where we start slowly, then we go up, before to reach orgasm.
But when you compare the two, the first Sona is more instinctive, faster to deliver an orgasm, but also more brutal. And this can disturb more than one person. Be careful, the Sona 2 is still powerful, there is nothing wrong with taking it apart, but compared to the first Sona, it is weaker. Everything will depend on what you want!
I think you understand, it’s a choice to make! This Sona 2 is not a revolution, but rather an adaptation to the market, facing the first model feedback. The Sona had as many aficionados as detractors, it was necessary to fix this. Note that since the Sona 2 release, the Sona has still dropped sharply, it is easily found at -50%, so this is a question to ask. We will see what gives the Sona 2 Cruise very soon, comparing it to the Lelo Sona 2 but also first Sona Cruise.
